I think donor advised funds are a key element of the second great wave. I didn't leave them out for any reason. I'm glad to hear you had a great year!

Sean – just curious why you don’t mention community foundations and donor-advised funds in your article about the second wave of philanthropy? You’re absolutely right that philanthropy is alive and well. In 2008 The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta received gifts of more than $120 million - our second highest year to date. In addition, we had a record-breaking year in the amount of grants to nonprofit organizations totaling $90 million. More than 80% of that $90 million was through donor-advised funds, certainly a very active group of donors. Atlanta is a young region, and donor-advised funds allow and encourage these donors to be engaged and hands-on in their giving. Thanks to donors like these, philanthropy continues to be alive and well in the Atlanta region.
