The ex-president of Mexico gave a speech here in Dubai yesterday about how, if we have good ideas and implement them well, the world can emerge from the financial crisis BETTER positioned to face the future than it was before the crisis. One simple analysis of the financial crisis is that debt was being used too freely by the financial markets. It may be that we emerge from this crisis with less debt in the system and a healthier understanding of how to use debt appropriately.
So my question for you is what ideas and actions should philanthropy take to emerge from the crisis better positioned to face the future? What lessons should we hope philanthropy learns? What would a better philanthropy look like in a post-crisis environment?
