Reader Emily Howe sends me this excellent link to a BusinessWeek debate on higher teacher salaries. The Con side is written by a foundation employee. But they only argue that high pay by itself won't fix everything. That seems self obvious and not a rejection of the point.

My friend (and NCRP board member) Peter Manzo, argues in a comment that my post on negative discount rates means foundations should adopt higher payout rates. I disagree, saying that it isn't that simple.

Richard Marker, who writes the Wise Philanthropy blog, offers this excellent post arguing that the proposed reduction in the charitable deduction is not that big of deal and in any case is the wrong battle for philanthropy to fight. I agree.
