A few years ago, Claire Gaudiani suggested "social profit organization" to replace the word "nonprofit". At the time, I argued that the phrase "social enterprise" was actually the perfect term. It is too bad the phrase now refers specifically to nonprofits that focus on an earned income approach to revenue generation.
