Spend down foundations are all the rage, but does the concept extend to nonprofits? This article suggests it does, but I doubt it makes sense in general. Building a robust organization and then shutting it down makes little sense.

The Wall Street Journal reports on nonprofits facing new taxes (labeled as fees) due to the financial crisis facing governments. I believe that nonprofits will need to find a better long term strategy for coping with the coming fiscal rebalancing than simply fighting any and all attempts to tax them in some way.
