  • The Project Streamline report Drowning in Paperwork, Distracted from Purpose, was an excellent look at how foundations get bogged down in process and how they can improve. Now there is a online assessment tool that identifies ways your foundation can improve.

  • In 2005, Andrew Blau of Monitor Institute, wrote this piece arguing that donors are not investors and should be seen as “consumers” (what I’ve called Charitable Givers in my recent posts). I agree that most individual donors are not investors. But the paper illustrates my point that we can only talk about effectiveness if we understand the different roles played by different types of donors.

  • More from Saundra Schimmelpfennig on what Japan is saying about their desire/need for foreign donations. The “Japan doesn’t need donations” meme is so controversial because it goes against our urge to help. But the most emotionally satisfying donation is one that is needed and actually makes a difference.
