The Gates Foundation’s grant for Japan relief: our questions and its response | The GiveWell Blog
After the Haitian earthquake the Gates and Ford Foundations made grants that I argued could be used to inform individual donors. However, I was disappointed that their press releases didn’t offer any explanation or rationale. Now GiveWell is trying to draw similar information from the Gates Foundation’s Japan response and getting little useful feedback. I think major foundations are missing a huge opportunity to increase the flow of charitable donations to effective organizations.
