GiveWell profiles GiveDirectly, a group I’ve heard a number of smart donors mention recently. The organization is out to show that in the developing world giving people hard cash instead of providing social services is a better bet. They’ve assembled some good evidence and while they are brand new, they’re crafting a well designed randomized controlled trial to see how well their system actually works.
